Free Online Yoga

Yoga:The Ultimate Remedy

Are your muscles stiff and sore from hours in front of your computer? Is your mind often scattered and frantic? If so, let Yoga come to the rescue. I’ve put together a quick online guide about yoga, it’s benefits, and a few online resources that are free. There’s so much that could be said about Yoga, but I’ve kept this post short intentionally. The focus is on inspiring you to use it today!

What is Yoga?

Quoting from Yoga Journal’s FAQ on Yoga:

“The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj means to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline. …The eight limbs of yoga: the yamas (restraints), niyamas (observances), asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), dharana (concentration), dhyani (meditation), and samadhi (absorption). As we explore these eight limbs, we begin by refining our behavior in the outer world, and then we focus inwardly until we reach samadhi (liberation, enlightenment).

Today most people practicing yoga are engaged in the third limb, asana, which is a program of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide the physical strength and stamina required for long periods of meditation.”

Benefits of Yoga
Upward Dog
There are so many benefits:

  • Improved: Flexibility, Strength, Balance.
  • Relieves stiff muscles and joints.
  • Increased breathing capability.
  • Increased sense of calm and well-being. Reduction of anxiety.
  • Keeps your body young.

All I know is that when I do (asana) Yoga, I feel great. I highly recommend Yoga to everyone. If you’re beginning and hesitant, just take it slow . And if you’ve been away from it, come on back to it! Take it slow.
