You don’t need more information. What you need is acceptance of the truth.
If you find yourself constantly searching for answers to the same questions, you probably already have the information that you need to know the answer. For example, a common quest many people are on is “how can I lose weight?” There are a million books, articles, websites, programs, etc that will give you some version of the answer. What you need now is not more information, but acceptance of the truth about how to do it. Once you have that acceptance, then you can commit to doing it and finally follow through with action.
So let’s break this down further.
Why We Keep Searching For Answers
Think about it. How often do you run from the answer to your problem by continuing to search for a different answer? What is your biggest question you want an answer to right now?
If we already have enough information, why do we keep searching for the answer on and on? In many cases, it is because we don’t like the answer we have found so far. It seems like it is too much work and we want to find an easy way to solve our challenge.
I’m all for finding the most efficient way to get results. So by all means find that most efficient way to get your desired result, but anything worth having is going to take some amount of work.
The Answer
Do you really want the result you are seeking? Do you really want to lose weight? Do you want to increase your income? Do you want a better relationship? Do you want to be healthier? Do you want to be happy?
If so, ask yourself “What is it that I must do to make this happen?” Be honest with yourself. You know the answer.
Acceptance: The Magic Key
Now for the toughest part, acceptance. Acceptance means letting go of searching for a goose that lays golden eggs. Acceptance is saying “I realize there is work involved in reaching my goal. I really want to reach my goal. I am ready to do the work. I am ready to make a plan and stick to it consistently.”
An Example: Losing Weight
So if we take our original example of losing weight. You’ve searched and searched. Some say eat protein, some say don’t eat fats, some say combine this with that. Some say just do X everyday and you will lose weight. (walk 1 hour per day, eat slowly, cut out carbs, don’t eat dairy, eat only vegan) But it doesn’t work.
Why? Because the simple answer for losing weight is incontrovertible: you must eat less calories each day than your body burns. It’s simple, but it does takes work: counting calories, making smarter food choices, exercising, and sticking with it daily.
From Knowledge to Acceptance to Results
So what is your current quest? What is your goal? What do you want? You already have the information. You already have the answer! Put down the books, stop asking the gurus. Just be honest and ask yourself “What is the answer? What do I need to do to achieve my goal?”
Once you accept the work that needs to be done, make a plan and start it today. Keep it simple so you can take action ASAP!
Ask: “What do I need to do today to start?” Then Take Action! Just Do It!
It’s Up to You
The biggest accomplishments were all started unceremoniously with a thought, a commitment (however tentative), and a first action step (followed by one small step after another). Accept what you know is the answer to reaching your goal and get busy doing instead of endlessly searching (otherwise known as procrastination!). You can do it!!!
