Break-Through the Impossible!

Are some things impossible? Maybe? Like time travel, walking through walls, traveling to another galaxy, etc. (who knows maybe someday even these things will be possible) But mostly there are things that only SEEM impossible. What would you like to do that seems impossible, but you’d really like to do it? Here are 3 mini-stories that illustrate that many things we think are impossible really are possible. I hope these stories inspire you to follow your dream even if it seems impossible.

What Is Your Story?

Creative Commons License photo credit: gemma maree

Here’s what I mean by “What is your story?” Have you ever noticed that each person you know has a certain theme or story that they are always telling in one form or another? For instance, you may have a friend who is always short on cash. Her story might be “I never have enough money.”

Or maybe you have a friend who always tells the story of the guy who cheated on her.  Her story: “Men always cheat (on me.)” Or maybe you know someone else whose story is more broad-based where somehow he is always the victim of some transgression. We are often blind to our own stories.

So what is your story and more importantly is it serving you well? Could it be that your story holds the key to living the life you really want? Let’s explore….

Power Up! Power Thinking to Improve Your Life

Journey - First Step

Whether you realize it or not you probably engage in negative self-talk frequently.  We steal our own power with limiting questions and statements, such as:

  • Why does this always happen to me?
  • I’m always late!
  • Why do I always fail?
  • I work so hard and have nothing to show for it.
  • Why can’t I lose weight.
  • He/she always has to push my buttons and make me mad!

These are just a few. If you spend a day observing your thoughts you’ll likely find others. But fear not! You are not alone. You are not a loser. You’ve just had a lot of practice at it. And you can change the way you think. If you practice new empowering questions, you will be able to change your life for the better! You’re going to be amazed at how powerful this is!

What You Really Need to Get What You Want

Answer

You don’t need more information. What you need is acceptance of the truth.

If you find yourself constantly searching for answers to the same questions, you probably already have the information that you need to know the answer.  For example, a common quest many people are on is “how can I lose weight?” There are a million books, articles, websites, programs, etc that will give you some version of the answer. What you need now is not more information, but acceptance of the truth about how to do it. Once you have that acceptance, then you can commit to doing it and finally follow through with action.

So let’s break this down further.

Gift Guide: Buy American Made, Create Jobs!

I saw an awesome segment on ABC news the other night. It was called “Made in America.” This gist is this:

If each of us spent just $64 on American made goods during our holiday shopping, the result would be 200,000 new jobs.

The rallying call is: “ARE YOU IN?” Would you try to buy American-Made products this year at Christmas (and I say beyond) in order to help create jobs for America? I’m in! With so many products made overseas it’s not easy to find American- Made products. So for those of you that “are in,” here is a list of nice products that are Made in the United States.

How to Stop Being Frustrated by Politics

The way to stop being frustrated by politics? Get involved! (And before you stop reading because you have no spare time, please know that there are small ways to get involved that don’t take a lot of time!)

Think about a sports game. It can be frustrating watching a game when your team is losing. But when you are in the game, you can be affecting the outcome and at least know you did your best even if you don’t win. It is the same with politics! So, get on the field of play and use your energy, resources, and your right to contribute to our government. It won’t just make you feel better, it will make your community and country a better place!

Whether you are on the right, the left, in the center, or out in left field, you CAN make a difference in the world. “Somebody” is already making a difference. Why not join in?

If you don’t like the way things are going, stop shouting at the TV and do something! Here’s how:

Too Busy for Climate Change?

You don’t have to save the world single handed. It’s not an all or nothing proposition for each individual. It’s simply about doing the best you can in any given day. What I’m doing today is spreading the word for Blog Action Day 2009: Climate Change.

As Monika Baurlein states today in MotherJones.com, “Fix the Climate or the Kid Gets It.” (Clever title!) We need to convince “Americans that something we care about is actually at risk here. And of course something is is. Climate change poses the greatest danger not to polar bears, not to glaciers or beaches, but to our kids.”

So what’s a busy person to do? Here are some ideas that are easy:

Maybe God is Trying to Tell You Something

Boa semana!

I love the song, “Maybe God is Trying to Tell You Somethin’,'” from the Color Purple soundtrack.  It is a very passionate and moving gospel song. Every once in a while, something happens in my life where I can hear a message from God. It’s not always earth shattering, but even when it is a simple message it is still a delightful intermission from my usual mundane thought patterns. Hopefully this story will spark your interest to  adjust the dial on your “tuner” in order to hear the messages you may be receiving right now. Continue Reading →
