@Vencenti - that is quite sobering. How do you see it playing out? Do you think we'll be able to save ourselves?

It seems like it will take both government requirements of cutbacks in usage along with the majority of people having the desire and will to make massive changes.

Do you have any recommendations? Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!

I think the most important thing is to read scientific journals and know your facts inside and out. There are people who actually believe that climate change is a scam (Usually these people are politically motivated). You need references and sources to show them that this is real and convince them to make some small changes to help.

Something to keep in mind:

All the oil refineries in the world currently produce daily one and one half liters of oil for every man woman and child on Earth.

The average American uses a minimum of six liters per day to support his or her lifestyle.

That's four and one half liters of oil more than our share if we are talking about everyone on the planet using an equitable amount of (oil) energy.

So, the sad truth is that Americans are taking enough energy out of the supply to keep approximately two billion people in the world in dire poverty from the standpoint of energy available to them to support a lifestyle.

That means that each American must cut back by two thirds+ or the people in poor nations will remain in dire straits when it comes to supporting their comfort.

With all of the conversation we have regarding the environment, in the US, ask yourself, "Are individual Americans willing to cut their energy use by two thirds? That would mean no air conditioning and very little heat. One car (at most) per family, and many more (Un-American) inconveniences. (No Moms running "practice" errands for two or more children after school.)

When it comes to shove, no matter how much we publish articles calling for Green action (thereby wasting more energy) no American I know would be willing to make the sacrifices necessary to give other people in other nations their fair share of the oil produced.

We are just too used to being, well, American, to go much beyond conversation.

Our actions speak very loudly to the rest of the world.

China is the biggest consumer of energy in order to produce products primarily for guess who?

The number of liters of oil each Chinese person has for his or her personal use is less than a liter.

In other words, Who is kidding who?

As an example, John Travolta often gives speeches encouraging Americans to cut back. However, John owns five personal jets that he uses to fly to wherever his schedule takes him.

That is an extreme example but, on a smaller scale, nearly every environmentalist in the US has an energy footprint over three times what it should be if they were to seriously claim to be living a Green lifestyle.

It is not a pretty picture.

We are very noisy about the environment in the US. However, that's just about as far as it goes.

Everyone knows about these tips and safety precautions to save the earth for tomorrow's world. But, no one follows them. Even the great scientists also tell these precautions which they doesn't follow. One has to transform his mind to the goodness of the world.

Thanks for your very useful article. It is recognized that climate change is our common problem. This is closely related to global warming, world temperatures continue to rise, polar ice melting, the ozone layer is kept thin. This calls need to be addressed with a strong cooperation between us. All the nations of the world must really care for this problem. one of the steps can be taken is the policy of reducing emissions of air pollutants.

The CO2 content in atmosphere is nearly 387 ppm which should be reduced to 350 ppm soon for avoiding climate changes. The school students in our locality are advised to turn off electric power at 9 p.m occasionally to achieve this 350.

Lets strive to create a green society !!!!
Lets aim at 350 !!!!!

@Michael - I've heard that too, that we may actually be entering a cooling period in earth's history and the global warming phenomenon is actually staving it off a bit.

Perhaps that is true. However, the way I look at it is, in some sense it doesn't matter. I think that reducing pollution, being frugal with our limited natural resources, and finding ways to use renewable resources more efficiently can never be wrong.

Also, it seems that "going green" is usually a net positive on people's bank accounts so I don't see how the media benefits at the cost of the masses.

Thank you so much for contributing your comments here.

Energy saving, vegan-ism, not using plastics, proper tire pressures and paperless are absolutely right on and is our responsibility if wise...., but there are over three thousand ( 3,000)!!!...scientists and global reserchers that have signed documents stating that "global warming is a fraud" and that in fact the earth is getting cooler and is the natural cyclical event of planet earth. "Global warming" is a political, money hungry, media controlled scare tactic and the informed are well aware of this maneuver. But JUST LIKE the Y2K blitz, the masses populace and ignorant (un-learned) will be swept into this false current. Remember when the world was flat and the earth circled the solar system? History paints a perfect picture......., the "strongest always write history" and "the" majority are NEVER RIGHT! Who killed the Christ?
All of this is documented and can be found if you really want to know the real story.
My sincere regards,
Mike Chisman
