As to spyware and viruses, I strongly believe that prevention is the key. Fighting malware very often is useless - a corrupt Windows installation cannot be cured without reinstall, which means installing all software anew. Can easily take up the whole day. Running a quick single scan with any magic scanner will not resolve the issue, those companies that promise 100% removal are misleading people.

I'm going right to lifehack to check out your guest post, thanks! You know what's most annoying -- telemarketers calling my house just before I head out the door (in a hurry, no doubt). You can always let the machine get it, but if you're expecting a call you still have to stick around and screen the call.

The smartest thing I ever did when it came to spyware & viruses was listen to my husband's recommendation to get Trend Micro's PC-Cillin instead of something like Norton. It warns me every single time I hit a website that uses ad servers known to serve spyware, and I just automatically close the window. I've only once contracted a couple of spyware cookies, and it immediately told me and gave me a simple interface to "quarantine" and subsequently destroy those items--not to mention leave orders for them to be dealt with automatically in the future. I'm really amazed at how much more secure my machine seems to be than those of the folks who use other programs.
