it is an interesting process to make the move. Ultimately it can be alot of trouble. My own feel is that unless it is really important to you, to just start again. Use a word press template that you like and start afresh. Good luck to all in the process.

Hello, i guess this is as good of a place as any to post and let you know. I went to subscribe to your RSS feed, and when i clicked it i got an error that said “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING” followed by other gibberish that scrolled off the screen. I had to force the page to stop loading because it locked up my browser. Cheers.

This is very good, but if you need more details on the technical details on how to do it, you have to try something else. I moved from Blogger to Wordpress and had to do it differently, so read my post on it also if you're looking to switch but want to ensure you don't get penalized by Google for duplicate content.

yeah,i can understand how tough it would have been to move from blogger to wordpress.
Even upgrading wordpress versions are very tough so i guess i moving the blog is just like nightmare.
upgrading is tough that’s why i donot upgrade my blog also, until and unless it’s very urgent.

My blog is relatively new. I’m with blogger by the way. I’ve heard a lot of good things about WordPress but I think I’ll stick to Blogger. I find it easiest to manage although I can’t discount the fact that there are a lot of problems with it.

Adim - Glad this is helpful! I intend to write some more on this general topic soon. Yes, it will import the pictures as well. See my post on Clean Import From Blogger to Wordpress. Also, once you have everything up and running with Wordpress, which takes a little up-front work, you might also want to check out my post about desktop blogging client called ECTO. It makes posting a lot easier. (Nothing is perfect, but this is the best solution I've found so far for posting)

I just have one question. Does the import also import the pictures on your blog?

Thanks. Let’s see to answer your question briefly. For FTP’ing you can use ANHosting’s control panel. Go to http://your URL/cpanel. You put in your admin password they gave you. Under “Site Management” click on “File Manager” This will open up their FTP client. You can only upload one file at a time that way. For easier way try either Filezilla which is a free download from sourceforge. Just type into google to find it. The program will kinda walk you through setting up FTP access to your site. Another one you can try that I like is Ipswitch WS_FTP. They have a 30 day free trial.

When you get your FTP set up then for uploading themes you’ll want to to go to this directory on your site. Click into Public_html> wp-content> themes. “Themes” is where you will upload the files too.

Uploading is kind of like when you copy a file from one folder to another. It’s just that with FTP the copy is to another folder on another server (ANHosting). Does that make sense?

For more detailed instrux, if the wizards in Filezilla or WS_FTP don’t help, then I would check on the support boards at wordpress.org. You can search to see if you find something or post your question and someone will respond within a day.

I’ve just started with anhosting.com and wordpress. I’m at the stage I want to load on some themes, but don’t know how (using the FTP management option in anhosting).

Anywhere I could find an idiot’s guide? (I’m non-tech, at least in this area). Thanks!

someone had a comment: I don’t like the idea of turning off my norton security. I have too much to lose. Don’t know who you can trust out there..

My response is:
regarding turning off your internet security: 1) if you can upload without it, then don’t worry about this recommendation. 2) if you do need to turn off your internet security, just go turn it off for only the time that it take s you to upload, usually only a few minutes. Then turn the security back on.
