Clean Import from Blogger to Wordpress!

Having trouble importing your Blogger beta posts into Wordpress? I just found the answer to a clean import!! Totally clean! (This is for Wordpress hosted solutions.)

Ok, after trying several other methods, here’s the one that works:

In a browser type <your blogger URL>/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss .
Save the file. (It should have an .htm extension automatically)
In your wordpress admin panel, go to Manage>Imports.
Click on the RSS option.
Browse for your file, Upload.
Go to your site and see your perfectly imported Blogger posts now in your Wordpress blog!

And here’s the cherry on top: any formatting that didn’t look so good over at Blogger, will now look even better in Wordpress. Wow! I am amazed and psyched.

If you’re curious, you can see my old blog HERE. You’ll see that the posts came into Wordpress looking better than they did at Blogger!

Congratz! Looking good.. I might consider moving to Wordpress, but not just now.

I tried this. I used /posts/default?alt=rss&start-index=1&max-results=999
so I would get more than 25 entries. The default “Save Page As” option in Firefox saved it with a .xhtml extension, but it was a “Web Page, complete” save. Wouldn’t import. When I changed it to save as type “Web page, HTML only”, it worked great. Images, videos, tables and everything else worked great.

Do you know of a way to export/import the blogger categories (labels)?

Hi Wally, Glad you got that to work and thanks for sharing what you did to make it work.

If I remember correctly I don’t think the labels came over for me. So I don’t know how to do that.
